I found a beet that was ready enough (I think it was a little small, but I really wanted to eat one) so I harvested it, sliced it, and sauteed it in butter. My kids have amazing foodar, because just as I was getting ready to eat it, they came in from splashing around in the backyard wading pool and demanded some. They ate more of it than I did! Stinkers!
And lest you think I am an inattentive mother-- I could see them the whole time I was cooking from my kitchen window.
